Description of the Program:

This program is designed for college students who are looking to setup a Linksys Wireless Router Network. The program is designed to help students learn more about making a safe Wireless Conntection for the Wireless Network so that random people can not leach their internet from them with out permission. It will also go into details on how to connect the router to the PC and how to connect to the internet via their wireless signal.

Assessment Strategy:

Students will be given a multiple choice test to evaluate how well they can recall the information about how to connect a wireless router to a PC. Graphical images of the Ethernet cords, a router and AC adapters will also be included to determine if the user knows how to distinguish these different items from one another. Finally, there will also be some short answer questions for the student to answer to see if they understand the concept of a WEP Key and an IP address.

Course Level Objectives:

Course Level Objectives

1.0 Given the instructional tutorial "Setting up a Wireless Router," a Linksys wireless router, a PC with an Ethernet card, AC adapter power chord, and the appropriate wireless router equipment, learners will be able to:

  • Identify the equipment needed to set up a wireless router, including a PC

with an Ethernet card, wireless router, AC adapter power chord, and Ethernet

    cord. (Declarative Knowledge)

  • Describe the use of wireless adaptor equipment, including a PC with an

Ethernet card, a wireless router, AC adapter power chord, and Ethernet cord.

    (Declarative, Conceptual)

  • Connect the AC adapter to the wireless router and wall outlet. (Procedural, Psychomotor)
  • Connect a PC to a wireless router correctly. (Procedural, Psychomotor)

2.0 Given a PC using Windows XP, a Linksys Wireless router, the instructional tutorial "Setting up a Wireless Router,” and the listed XP applications, learners will be able to:

  • Identify and perform certain tasks in the Windows XP operating system. (Concept)
  • Identify and state what it is used for. (Concept, Declarative Knowledge)
  • Identify what an IP address is. (Concept)
  • Explain what WEP stands for and what it means. (Principle)
  • Perform the necessary tasks in the command prompt and Internet Explorer to move on to the next step. (Procedure)
  • Type in credentials to access the Linksys Configuration Page. (Procedure, Psychomotor)
  • Perform the necessary tasks in the Linksys Configuration Page. (Procedure)
  • Save settings in order to move on to the next step. (Procedure)

3.0 Given the instructional tutorial “Setting up a Wireless Router,” and the wireless router’s properties window, learners will to able to:

  • Apply the correct procedures in the wireless router’s properties. (Procedure)
  • Select the necessary actions to be able to connect to the wireless network. (Procedure)
  • Connect to the wireless router’s signal when in range. (Procedure)

I (Wally Walton), have read my groups work done so far up to 2:15 AM on Friday March 2nd.

SO far I approve of the work being done on this project. All I am waiting to finish to read is Dan Parrish's part.

The work I contributed to this High Level Design Document was the Description of the Program and the Assessment Strategy.

I so far sign off on this verison of the HLDD, just waitng for Dr. West to look at it and Dan Parrish to add his part.
