Consequently, if your wireless router is left unsecured, it can be like leaving your front door wide open for anyone to step inside.  And these people are using it against you.  You could quite expensively lose your internet service because half a dozen moochers all decided to connect and download dirty videos at the same time over your current connection!!!

At the end of this lesson, you will be presented with a short multiple choice question to test what you have learned in this section.  (To help focus the attention, the learners will be presented with some animation, pictures, and possible some audio)

Employ Learning Strategies

(Each step will be presented on its own slide with pictures, animation, and or audio to aid the learner in recalling the critical steps of the procedure.)

  • Open the command prompt so that you may complete the next step.
  • Type the word "ipconfig" when prompted and write down the IP address listed after Default Gateway.

For further practice, lets go through a few things:

-WEP stands for “Wired Equivalent Privacy.”

-An IP address is the numeric address of a computer connected to the Internet; also called Internet address. Example. 192.168.1.3

-The command prompt is a black screen symbol such as C:> that requests user input.  It can also be called the MS-DOS prompt.

If you are still unsure on how to correctly secure your wireless router, please go back to the beginning section of Using WEP security.

Otherwise please proceed to the next slide.

Evaluate Feedback

By this point, your Linksys wireless router should correctly be secured with WEP security.

Having WEP security will definitely keep your wireless router safe/secure from internet predators.

For future knowledge, there is no particular situation that requires you to leave your wireless router un-secure.  Security is needed in every situation, no matter what!

Conclusion

Summarize and Review

As you can see, again I must say; you are currently safe from any intruders!  Just to be safe, lets make sure that you completed these steps: (Proceed to the next slide)
